Power and subjectivity: Making sense of sexual consent among adults living in Sweden

While sexual consent has been a hot topic during recent years in the Swedish context, there is lack of empirical studies on issue. The aims this study were to analyse how adults Sweden experience and make sense (non)consent encounters, contribute conceptual discussion ‘sexual consent’, especially relation Foucauldian understanding power subjectivity. analysis based 31 interviews with living Sweden. Participants describe consenting sex due being exposed interpersonal forms power, ranging from violence clear violations nagging subjected pressure others. But they also feel give self-regulation disciplinary connected normative ideals about ‘the good relationship’, monogamy heterosexuality, men women, age. Our analytical lens allowed us explore challenge understandings autonomous, rational subjects who communicate basis authentic feelings.
